Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse is tweeting that the Mets are discussing a 2 year deal with Joel Pineiro for around $15 million. It is well known by all four of you (is that being generous Mike?) that read my blog that I have not been a big fan of Pineiro to the Mets this off season. That being said, I am a lot less critical of this if they can get him for a deal like this. I am not in favor of this as I still think he will suck, but it should not handcuff the club when this deal goes south.
My main fear is that Minaya and Co. give the Pineiro camp an option that is easily attainable, making it a 3 year stint. Make no mistake about it, I think Joel Pineiro will never have a season like he did in 2009. He is like a broken clock that is correct on accident. His track record is almost good, almost good, etc., then finally one good season.
Of the free agent pool out there, Pineiro is probably third on the depth chart behind Ben Sheets and Jon Garland. The problem is, Jon Garland has made it no secret that he wants to remain in the western side of the country. Also, Ben Sheets is a question mark as far as health. Behind Pineiro, I would list Washburn, Davis, and Bedard. All of these guys are less than appealing.
It would appear to me that the trade front would be the way to go. It also seems like, from what I gather around the horn, that the Mets have some options on that front. I think they are just waiting to see their best options.

lol could be too generous who knows for sure. I Like Sheets and Garland that's it for free agent SP. Trade wise I like Harang and Meche. I Hate Pinero and i think he sucks he had 1 lucky year
