Thanks to Matt Cerrone at Metsblog for the tip, it appears that Angel Pagan played well enough last year to draw some trade interest. Hitting in the lead off spot, Pagan hit .300 and played athletically, albeit comically at times with his base running and lack of baseball sense. Even though there is interest, it is tough to gauge the level. What kind of return could we see? If we are talking marginal prospects or another backup type, no thanks. I would rather keep Pagan and have him should Beltran go down with the balky knees again.
Pagan only earned about $575K last year and will get a raise in arbitration. This is a steal for this type of guy. He is much better than Cora, and will be half the salary. Do not get me started again on Alex Cora. I feel the point must be made again. Given his age (only 28), cheap salary, and athletic ability, I would not trade him unless I received something substantial. That being said, the Mets do have the opportunity to sell high (which never happens for us), so hopefully they can maximize the return and make it worthwhile.
Teams rumored to be interested include: Royals (swap for Guillen no thanks), Rangers, White Sox, Cubs, possibly Milwaukee. I am sure there are others, but we will see.
