MLBTR, among other sites, is reporting that the Mets and Dodgers have discussed Luis Castillo. Thoughts are that Juan Pierre may be involved in these talks on the Dodger side. If so, MetsCitiBlog say, "Please God NO!"
Unless the Dodgers are willing to take Castillo and give the Mets money to offset Pierre's salary, why in god's name would the Mets want the outfield version of Luis Castillo? Pierre is a singles hitting outfielder with a few SBs that doesn't strike out and doesn't walk. He is 32 years old and owed $18.5 million over the next two seasons.
If the Mets can pick him up and pay him less that $4 million per season as a fourth outfielder, I guess that is fine in order to remove Castillo as well. The Dodgers have decided to move away from Orlando Hudson and do not seem to want to give the 2B job to Ronnie Belliard (who can blame them). Castillo probably is a decent fit for them. I have to believe that there is a little bit of a market for Castillo after he rebound season. Minaya might need to sit on him for a little to gauge where he could send him. I would just not want to rush into another bad two year contract with Pierre.
