According to MLBTR, David DeJesus and others are available from the Royals. The question was posed to me whether the Mets should attempt to sign Chone Figgins and trade for David DeJesus rather than spend big on Matt Holliday and sign Orlando Hudson as well. Let's assume that Castillo can be moved so this scenario actually could have legs.
While Holliday represents the slugging outfielder the Mets currently covet to rebuild the power in the lineup, what would DeJesus bring to the outfield? His stat line indicates he is a .280ish hitter with 25-35 doubles a year and 70-80 runs scored. He hits around 9 triples a year and 10 homers, driving in around 70. Clearly he is not the answer to the power equation. However, if you add the bat of Figgins as well, you may change the dynamic of the team from waiting for a home run to lots of speedy, athletic, doubles hitters. Also, neither Figgins nor DeJesus strikes out a ton.
Is this the way to go? It would clearly cost them about half the money, although you would have to send the Royals a couple players. Figgins stands to get 3 or 4 years at $8-10 million per. DeJesus made $3.6 million last year. Holliday stands to get at least a 4 year deal at $16 million per, but probably more years at slightly more money. Is he worth that much more? Also, money saved in this deal could be used to pay for John Lackey and more on the pitching front.
Holliday is a strong player, but is he that good? Check out his home/road splits for his career? His away from Coors Field splits are a lot closer to DeJesus, though still better. He is clearly more of a doubles hitter away from Coors and his BA is 67 points lower as well.
I am not decided either way, but the question was posed to me so I give it to you? Holliday or not?

Dejesus's numbers dont tell me he is MAtt Holliday, more like Xavier Nadyesque. We dont need another decent hotter, we need a good to great hitter in LF

You neglected to mention Dejesus' greatest appeal - he's one of the best fielding LFs in the game (if not the absolute best). He's also from Brooklyn. If we can get power elsewhere I'd love to put him in LF, I've been a big fan of his for a while.
