Rotoworld is reporting that the Mets have traded Scott Schoeneweis to the D-Backs for Conner Robertson. Robertson is a right hander that has started in the minors and was a reliever last season. Schoeneweis was a serviceable lefty specialist that was overused last year and used against too many righties.
I actually kind of liked him and think he would be very good if he had a straight lefty on lefty role. However, at $3.625 million a year, he is too expensive for that role.
Robertson was with the A's, then the D-Backs. He doesn't seem like much. However, the Mets could send him to triple A to start or try him out and see how spring training goes. They could simply cut him as well. They have saved probably about $3 million on the deal so that was the key.
By the time the winter is over, there may not be anyone left from last year's pen. The one guy I thought was save was Smith and he is gone. I suppose Feliciano could be back, Stokes as well.
The good thing is that next year, there really won't be any reason to get that sick feeling in your gut when Jerry goes to the pen. Everyone that gave you that sick feeling last year is gone.
