The Washington Post is reporting that the Mets and the Red Sox are in talks regarding Brian Schneider. The article does not name specific players from the Red Sox. However, it does mention that the Sox may have excess starting pitching, which the Mets need.
If this is true, and not going to be shot down in ten minutes, I just do not see how the Mets and Red Sox match up. The pitching prospects, unless the Mets kick in someone along with Schneider, would not be major league-ready.
It isn't likely that the Red Sox are going to hand the Mets Clay Buchholz for Brian "I bat .250" Schneider. I wonder if we are looking at Julio Lugo for second base. This would mean that Omar had a taker for Luis Castillo though, and that is unlikely. It is interesting to watch this play out, maybe Aaron Heilman is involved.
I like Brian Schneider, however, his game was not impressive lat year. Defensively, he did well. Offensively, when he plays, I feel like we have two pitcher's slots in the lineup. I pray that if this deal goes down that Omar looks to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in Texas and not Pudge or Varitek. He has not hit consistently yet, but he is young and shows promise. I think the Rangers had shown interest in Heilman in the past so maybe that could be the foot in the door. We'll see how this shakes out.
