The Padres cleared some salary and picked up a couple relief pitching prospects by trading Khalil Greene to the Cardinals apparently, as reported by the Post. This is being talked about at several different agencies, including the San Diego Tribune. The Tribune thinks this may allow the Padres to keep Jake Peavy.
I do not see it happening. Peavy talks have been all over the place, but still the Cubs look very interested and are trying to find a third team to meet the Padres needs.
Greene fills the shortstop need of the Cards and if he can rebound in his walk year, could become a solid offensive threat for them. He plays a decent defensive shortstop. His problems are a career OBP of .304, which he hasn't even been at since 2006, and a horrible strikeout to walk ratio that is about 4 strikeouts for every time he walks. Yikes on both stats.
Good luck Khalil
