Tomorrow, or rather tonight at midnight, Free Agency begins and with it comes a variety of things. Here is my list of ideas:
1. The Yankees will spend give C.C. Sabathia a 6 year deal for $500 Million
2. The Mets will talk to everyone, about everyone, and sign....... no one of significance.
3. The Royals will pretend to be players for a megastar like Manny and pretend he might actually go there.
4. The Angels will talk the talk, and in the end, will sign K-Rod back.
I love the free agent period, so much hype, so few teams really involved. According to the Post, the Yankees will pounce on Sabathia with their first offer tomorrow. Sherman is guessing it will start at 6 years, $150 million. Then they will buy Burnett, and or Lowe. After missing the playoffs, my idea #1 might not be far off.
The thing is, most teams do not want to spend big money anymore. They see what is done by the A's (before last year), the Marlins, and the Rays I believe and think they can do it too. Then you have the mega teams like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels, that have to spend money because of fan base and revenue, etc. These teams blow loads of money on some good (A-Rod, Beckett, Dice-K) and some bad contracts (Giambi, L.Castillo, Garrett Anderson). In the end, they have enough money left to shrug off the bad and justify them with the good.
Regardless, I cannot wait for tomorrow!
